Upcoming Mäeotsa events
We would like to welcome the community to come and attend two events that are coming up in June.
The first, we will be holding a talgud (clean up day) at Mäeotsa on June 15th from 10am to 5pm. The main goal is to get the property ready for the following weekend, Jaanipäev! The talgud days are always a nice time to come and enjoy the property in a 'quieter' (minus lawmowers, trimmers, saws..) state. There will be hot dogs available at lunch time, and it is a great time to come lend a hand and meet some new friends in the process.
Then the following weekend, you can enjoy the hard work from the talgud, and have fun at the Midsummer celebration Jaanipäev. With plenty of entertainment, great food, music, dancing and more, Jaanipäev is the biggest event of the year at Mäeotsa and it should not be missed!

Surrey Inn Lõpupidu May 25, 2013
Let us congratulate and thank the Selde, Suurkask and Kembi families for the beautiful adieu party they presented on Saturday night, May 25th, at the Compass Point Inn for the Vancouver Estonians' dearest Surrey Inn. How many hundreds of Estonian functions have been held there over the years! The hotel has had it's name changed a couple of times in it's operation, but it is still affectionately referred to as the Surrey Inn.
The Lõpupidu party was full of wonderful entertainment...

Upcoming events in May
There are two events coming up over the next two weekends in the Vancouver Estonian community.

First on Saturday, May 18th, the Vancouver Estonian Folk Dance group 'Kilplased' will be hosting their annual fundraiser at Mäeotsa. The group will be traveling to San Francisco at the end of June to take part in performing at the L.E.P. / ESTO, along with other groups from North America and Estonia, and proceeds will help with the group's travel costs. There will be performances by Kilplased and Leelo, and it is a great time to come and enjoy the spring weather (rain or shine!) at Mäeotsa.
For event information, click here.
Then one week later, on Saturday, May 25th, will be the Surrey Inn Closing Party. Surrey Inn, now known as the Compass Point Inn, has been home to many wonderful Estonian events over the many years of it's operation. It will be a lovely opportunity to enjoy the Hotel in some of it's final moments, to reminisce and create memories anew.

Emadepäeva aktus - Mother's Day program 2013
Mother's Day was celebrated by the community at Meie Kodu on Sunday, May 12th. Ingrid and Karl Rumm led the program, and were joined at the podium with warm remarks by Olev Rumm, and the program's guest speaker, Mihkel Kukk. Leelo sang beautiful songs of spring lilacs, the singer's childhood, and the comforts of home, and following were talented performances by Ingrid Rumm on guitar, Alina Tork on piano and Karl Rumm's poem reading.
It was a lovely afternoon celebrating the wonderful love of Mother's Day along with warm familiar faces. Thank you to everyone who attended! |
